At Pet Helpers, we’re powered by the dedication and enthusiasm of our incredible volunteers. Their passion and unique talents play a vital role in keeping our organization running smoothly and ensuring the best care for our animals. Our volunteers work alongside the Pet Helpers team on a wide range of essential tasks, including socializing with cats, walking and enriching our dogs, tackling laundry, assisting with administrative tasks, supporting events, and so much more.

General Volunteer Requirements
To volunteer with Pet Helpers, applicants must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers ages 13–15 are welcome for select opportunities but must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times. Parents looking to get children under the age of 13 involved should refer to our Humane Education Programs. Please note that roles and shift availability are limited. To learn more and receive approval, please contact our Volunteer Manager directly.
Getting Started:
- Application – Complete our volunteer application to start the process.
- Orientation – Attend a general orientation, held at 9 AM on alternating Thursdays and Saturdays, to get familiar with our mission, guidelines, and expectations.
- Guided Shift – After orientation, you’ll schedule a guided shift to gain hands-on experience with one of our team members.
- Independent Scheduling – Once your guided shift is completed, you’re free to schedule volunteer shifts whenever works best for you!
- Growth Opportunities – After completing all of the previous steps, you’ll be ready to sign up for Dog Orientation sessions. These must be scheduled through the Volunteer Coordinator. Volunteers must attend and be approved during orientation to be eligible to work in Dog Land.
Onsite Requirements:
- Volunteers must sign in and wear their name tag while onsite.
- For safety, closed-toe shoes and long pants are required.
- Please note that some activities are only available to volunteers over 18.
Individual Volunteers
Volunteering at Pet Helpers is a fun and rewarding experience! As a volunteer, you play a vital role in our mission by supporting adoptions, fundraising, and increasing public awareness of our work. We aim for you to become a valuable part of the Pet Helpers family by fully engaging in our programs and services.
We offer 2-hour shifts Monday through Sunday to accommodate a variety of schedules:
- Shift Times: 8-10 AM, 10 AM-12 PM, 1-3 PM, and 3-5 PM
We encourage our volunteers to commit to a long-term, consistent schedule. This allows us to provide reliable support for our shelter and animals, while you enjoy the fulfillment of regular involvement.

Group Volunteers
If you’re interested in bringing a group of volunteers to Pet Helpers, the group leader should email volunteer@pethelpers.org to get started.
To ensure we can plan a meaningful and worthwhile project for your group, please contact us at least three weeks prior to your desired date. The more time we have, the better we can work with you to coordinate and plan a successful volunteer day.
Court-Ordered Community Service
At Pet Helpers, we evaluate court-ordered community service applications on a case-by-case basis. However, please note that we are unable to accept volunteers with charges related to drugs, theft, or physical altercations.
If you’re interested in joining us, the first step is to complete our Community Service Volunteer Application. Once your application is approved, you’ll have the flexibility to schedule your hours at a time that works best for you!
