Pet Helpers - Get Involved

VOLUNTEER

To operate smoothly, Pet Helpers relies on the commitment and energy of its uniquely talented volunteers. Volunteers assist the Pet Helpers staff with many of their responsibilities. These responsibilities include kennel cleaning, cat socialization, dog walking and enrichment, laundry, administrative tasks, adoption counseling, event assistance, and much more. For volunteer inquiries, please email us at volunteer@pethelpers.org.

General Volunteer Requirements

ALL volunteers must be 16 years or older.

All volunteers must complete the following:

  • Fill out an application.
  • Schedule and complete the orientation and volunteer forms.
  • Schedule your first volunteer shifts with the Volunteer Manager. There are no walk-in volunteer positions. Most positions require further training to ensure that our animals are provided with the best care while they wait for their forever home.
  • All volunteers must sign in and wear a name tag while on the premises.
  • Closed toed shoes and long pants are required when volunteering.

*Some restrictions may apply to certain activities to those volunteers who are not 18. volunteers.

Getting Started

Complete an online application form with the link below and email volunteer@pethelpers.org to register for the Volunteer Orientation.

Orientations are held monthly. Space is limited and the session typically lasts 30-45 minutes.

In addition to a shelter overview and tour, we will provide information about our different programs and upcoming events. If there is an opening in your area of interest we will make every effort to match you with this position. Please keep in mind that not all positions are available at all times of the year, so we kindly ask for your flexibility, and know that every position you volunteer for makes a significant difference in the lives of the animals we care for!

Thank you for your interest in our Volunteer Program and we look forward to working with you soon!

Individual Volunteers

Volunteering at Pet Helpers is fun and rewarding! As a volunteer, you contribute to the success of Pet Helpers as you facilitate adoptions, fundraising, and general public awareness of Pet Helpers. Our ultimate goal is that you integrate yourself into the Pet Helpers programs and services and truly become part of our family.

We offer three (3) to four (4) hour shifts Monday-Sunday. Daily morning shifts at the shelter are from 8:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. and afternoon shifts are from 1:00 pm until 4:00. We are primarily looking for in-shelter volunteers who can commit to a long-term, ongoing schedule.

Group Volunteers

If you are interested in bringing a group of volunteers to Pet Helpers, the group leader should complete a group volunteer application form and contact volunteer@pethelpers.org

To allow us time to plan a worthwhile project for your group please plan on contacting us at least 4 weeks prior to your desired date. Families interested in specific volunteer projects will also be considered by filling out the Group Volunteer Application Form.

Pretrial Intervention

We accept court-ordered community service on a case-by-case basis. We do not accept any charge related to theft or a physical altercation. Shifts must be scheduled in advance with the Volunteer Manager. Please make sure we are accepting new court-ordered volunteers before filling out an application form by emailing volunteer@pethelpers.org
