Pet Helpers - Get involved

VOLUNTEER

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the COVID-19 situation, ALL Volunteer Orientations have been STOPPED until further notice. Thank you for your patience and understanding during this time.

To operate smoothly, Pet Helpers relies on the commitment and energy of its uniquely talented volunteers. Volunteers assist the Pet Helpers staff with many of their responsibilities. These responsibilities include kennel cleaning, cat socialization, dog walking and enrichment, laundry, administrative tasks, adoption counseling, event assistance, and much more. For volunteer inquiries, please email our Community Engagement Manager, Carrie Browning-Perez, at cbrowning-perez@pethelpers.org

General Volunteer Requirements

ALL volunteers must be 16 years or older. Some restrictions may apply to certain activities to those volunteers who are not 18. All volunteers must complete the following:
  • Fill out an application
  • Attend the orientation
  • Complete a volunteer waiver
  • Arrange a time for their first shift with the Volunteer Manager. There are no walk-in volunteer positions. Most positions require further training to ensure that our animals are provided with the best care while they wait for their forever home.
  • All volunteers must sign in and wear a name tag while on the premises.
  • Closed toed shoes and long pants are required when volunteering.

Getting Started

Fill out an online application form and email volunteer@pethelpers.org to register for the Volunteer Orientation.

Orientations are normally on the 1st Tuesday and the 3rd Saturday of each month. Space is limited and they typically last 30-45 minutes.

In addition to a shelter overview and tour, we will provide information about our different programs and upcoming events. If there is an opening in your area of interest we will make every effort to match you with this position. Please keep in mind that not all positions are available at all times of the year, please be flexible, and know that every position you volunteer in makes a significant difference in the lives of the animals we care for.

Thank you for your interest in our Volunteer Program and we look forward to working with you soon!
