Building a Future of Care.

A Legacy of Kindness

Michael Auger was a longtime supporter and generous donor to Pet Helpers. His unwavering commitment to helping animals in need lives on through the Michael Auger Fund. This fund also celebrates the continued leadership of his wife, Cari Auger, a longstanding member of the Pet Helpers Executive Board, whose dedication to our mission has strengthened our impact in the community.

More than just a program, this fund is a tribute — a way for Michael’s generosity to continue touching lives, helping both animals and the people who love them for years to come. By supporting this fund, donors help ensure that his legacy endures, creating brighter, healthier futures for pets and their families throughout our region.

Our Vision for change

Through the Michael Auger Fund, Pet Helpers aims to:

  • Prevent thousands of unwanted litters each year.
  • Reduce shelter intake pressure across our geographic area.
  • Strengthen the human-animal bond by helping families keep their pets healthy and at home.

Every grant awarded means fewer pets entering the shelter system — and more staying safe with their families.

Providing Help Where It’s Needed Most

The Michael Auger Fund provides income-based grants to help families access essential veterinary care, ensuring that no animal is left behind due to financial hardship.

With this fund, Pet Helpers can help pet owners:

  • Spay/Neuter Surgeries – reducing pet overpopulation.
  • Preventative Care – including vaccinations, microchipping, heartworm testing, and wellness exams.
  • Community Support – keeping pets healthy, safe, and in their homes instead of the shelter system.

This grant-based program supports low-income pet owners in Charleston, Dorchester, Colleton, and Berkeley Counties — families in underserved areas with limited access to affordable veterinary care.

By removing financial barriers, we’re helping pets stay healthy and at home with the people who love them.

How Pet Owners Can Apply

Pet owners are able to apply online for assistance through a simple and secure application form. Eligibility will be based on income guidelines or participation in assistance programs, ensuring that help reaches those who need it most.

Through this fund, qualified applicants may receive grants of up to $500.00 for outside veterinary care, allowing pet owners to seek treatment from trusted providers when emergencies or routine needs arise. In addition, services are offered at significantly reduced cost through the Pet Helpers Veterinary Clinic, with spay/neuter services available for as little as $50 per pet, making essential care accessible and affordable.

This program is designed to remove barriers, give pet owners peace of mind, and keep animals healthy, safe, and at home with the families who love them.

Building a Legacy of Compassion

The Michael Auger Fund is more than a program, it’s a living legacy. Each donation ensures that Michael’s kindness continues to make a difference, helping animals and the people who love them for generations to come.

Together, we can honor Michael Auger’s compassion and create a future where no animal is left behind due to financial hardship.
